In the near future, people forget how science, logistics, logic, gravity, language, work. Aliens show up, do bad things for dumb reasons, dumb humans apparently win the lottery, or some unknown deity just decides that the universe is full of idiots, and humans, being the least dumb, get to win.The strong points of this book, well, someone published it, and I bought it, PT Barnum and all that. The weak points; logic, continuity, overuse of MS Words auto fill ("[ship name] is down" repeated over 800 times in 5 books). Some weird fetish with the size of a ship that is supposed to mean something important in their ability to "war". Another weird fetish with 20 megaton warheads, for some reason future peoples find it impressive, and WOW an alien made 40 whole megaton warheads. It's not like the Tsar Bomba didn't exist in 1961 that was 50mt, but future people forgot. Future humans invent the MIRV, from the 1960's again, and its GAME CHANGING. The first thing every fleet engagement does is fire off a finite resource, missiles, to no avail, against shields, when they have a particle cannon that defeats shields and is infinitely renewable, WTF. Send space marines, a teeny tiny force, into ground combat, but apparently close air support was forgotten, because everyone has an Iron Man suit, including the other guys. Heavy weapons are functionally either a rifle or mortar, um artillery, hello. Ripley said it best, nuke it from orbit. Humanoids in battle suits are 10ft high, with two arms and two legs, bad spider people have 8 legs, are 8ft wide and 6ft tall, but when in battle suits can't be differentiated, or at least not in the book(s)
Earth evacuates, but the only nationalities in future world are Americans and British. It's mentioned that the Chinese are hiding in their tunnels, but decide to check out of the human race, and its literally never mentioned again. Three warring alien empires, one is unmentioned, one is Deux ex-empire. Clone racists, for a chapter, then magic happy melting pot of, Americans...and Americlones? Literally no ability to keep either characters or races straight from page to page. It really is bad, I can't believe I used an Amazon credit to buy this series, then spent half a day hate reading the whole thing. Bad, just really really bad.
Super spoiler, Humans win, for no reason, I was hoping for the 3rd empire to show up and kill everyone.

Galactic Empire Wars Destruction The Galactic Empire Wars Book 1 eBook Raymond L Weil Frank MacDonald Reviews
This book was pretty good. Lots of action, adventure as well as saving the survivors on earth as best they could. I liked the combat both marine and fleet action. I liked the Group on Vesta, even though as the book went along they got more and more sidelined.
Detractions
1) They talk about so much of earths lost and irreplacable biodiversity as well as trying to establish a 'viable' human population, at least they were concerned about a viable human pop in the early days. What about raiding a few sperm banks as high priority targets? What about the bio diversity initiatives that I know of currently that are trying to save both seeds as well as genetic samples of just about every animal on earth they can get their hands on, an in enough diversity to reestablish a species. I would have thought that these would be priority one targets both mentioned and crowed over if they could save. Plus you know, living on an asteroid, I'm' surprised they didn't have a small something of that sort anyway. So I felt that this was an agle that was missed or forgotten by the author.
2) The Politician angle. It wasn't addressed other than to say they addressed it. But honestly how could surviving politicians fail to try and seize power, or work themselves into the power structure. If only in the survivor camps if nothing else to try and consolidate their power. I mean if I was either, a selfless idiot of a poltiician or a cunning master of the art, froze out by the powers in orbit. That's where you'd see me hang my hat. In one of those freeze your hind quarters off camps outside a base. My slogan later on would be 'I stayed and suffered along side you' I was treated with you in those camp hospitals for hypothermia. And in all other ways play up how I was a people's man, so I had a few hundred thousand or million constituatants. At the very least you could get some traction being a go-between between the camps and military high command and that leads directly to part 3
3) Whatever the feelings of those in orbit. The military survivors aren't going to just stop listening to their elected leaders because 'they never met a politician who wasn't stupid'. If that was the case then one or more of the Generals would have taken over Vega and set up a Junta on the Moon at least. Either they follow the chain of command or its every man who dares for himself. They should have raised a stink or at least made sure to be in contact with their elected politicians until such a time as the proper civilian chain of command could be restored and the outer system leaders incorporated or replaced. No one was paranoid enough, even to the point of at least addressing these concerns. Which completely fails to address the concerns of the Germans or English or lets not forget all those soldiers from China or Russia that were put in stasis. I would have expected sparks to fly and they got pissed at this USA and Western evacuation first policy, or perceived policy, whether there is any truth to it or not some idiot will believe it. Especially if it helps hand power to himself and his people.
Also WTF about the Vega's Corporation Owner's Brother becoming the Fleet Admiral. Its not that I can't see it happening if the Owner is all about helping secure himself and his asteroid from being railroaded in the future now that the the General has the Trading Space Station and the majority of earth's population as well as military in his hands. But to just pass it off as 'he was the most qualified' without a single nay say to the contrary? Was there literally no Admiral or retired Admiral available for the post to raise a stink?
So on the whole 'Fun' but with big glaring holes in the believability of this senario.
The Deposed King
I totally became engrossed in this apocolyptic story that involves first contact with an alien species, the Kleese - let's just say, first contact does not go well for the people of Earth or our beloved blue/green, and swirly white clouded home. Raymond Weil took me on a rollar-coaster ride of emotions as I read of the devastion and destruction wrought on the Earth and humanity by the Kleese - I could visualise so well the tsunamis, volcanic eruptions and quakes and the plight of the survivors as they tried to survive in increasingly harsh conditions. As usual, Weil's stories abound in hope, optimism, the ability of humanity to work together in the face of an apalling situation and the importance of the family as a support network when times are at their worst. Their is plenty of action, battles in space and on the ground, courageous men and women who, in spite of seriously bad odds, will do all they can to protect and fight against those who try to take away humanity's freedom. All I can say is the Kleese had better run real fast 'cos humanity definitely has them in it's sights! I totally felt entertained by the author's story-telling ability.
