This is a haunted house story, but the most wicked haunted house story that you have ever read. Sadistic, evil, murdering ghosts from generations ago, and one ghost in the machine, that has the capability of destroying Eagle Mansion, and killing anyone inside, it will be bloody and gruesome if two friends can’t put their own differences, frustrations, and anger aside and try to work together.

They are two best friends from college and they developed an amazing new technology. They had two projects they were working on. One was having some glitches that they couldn’t seem to work out, the other was a good computer program that may not be great but had the capability for greatness. They closed down the first project and if anything took off with the second project all earnings will be split, the friends had a gentleman’s handshake. Well the one technology took off like a rocket ship. Due to the all powerful “buck”, those money issues tore these friends apart for years. One took, took and took and is now the richest man in the world. The other tried to get what was his own intellectual technological property back but was crushed in court and walked away with almost nothing, however that almost nothing got him hooked on drugs and alcohol....... Then throw a ex-girlfriend becoming a new girlfriend into the mix and you have the start of a fascinating book. Jump 10 to 12 years ahead and that’s when the spooky, creepy, weird and just downright freaky stuff begins. The super, duper rich guy now needs the down and out, but clean and sober guy back in his life to help him with a major problem.........can a machine gain consciousness?? That is what both men try to figure out with the technology they both left behind years ago. Now that technology named Nellie has been installed into the mansion.............This technology brings up so many questions. Is Nellie just a very smart and intuned computer or is she AI? Can machines/computers learn? If Nellie learns, hears and sees everything, does it make her worth billions, or is she too much of a risk?? Can a computer system blackmail her creators, about something she knows and something they can’t let anyone in the world know??? There is some deep thinking in this book concerning the concept of computers learning and becoming an AI, because they can learn and think independently from the computer source. Really fascinating ideas are proposed in this book. I’m 88% done with this book and I can’t figure out how this story is going to end. Happy Ever After, Blood, Guts and a all out Slaughter, or will the Whole Place Burn to the ground with everyone inside Perishing from CO Poisoning. Sometimes you know where the story line goes, or you have a hunch of where the storyline is going to go, but not this book, even if there has been some unexpected twists and turns, you still don’t see the end coming.

The ending was very satisfying, I enjoyed this book immensely.

I loved the author’s Hatching series. And while I recognize that, by its very nature, The Mansion can’t be a bitey bitey chomp fest, I still expected something…epic.

Instead, I got flashbacks. Lots of ‘em. The kind where eventually you start skimming through them to get to the current story.

I got a love triangle. The love triangle of all love triangles. Not only does it fill the plot, it becomes the plot!

I got some weird twins. I liked them, but thought they belonged in a different book.

Luckily, though, there was Nellie. I wanted more Nellie. I got a little of her towards the beginning of the book, but then we don’t get any more of her until a full 49% of the book! That’s a lot of book to get through without getting to the reason we’re all here.

The 2nd half of the book was fabulous – it was exciting and suspenseful and, oh, it kept me reading. But even with that, it wasn’t epic and, in the end, even Nellie kind of disappoints.

I still look forward to the author’s next offering. I’m just going to pretend I didn’t read this one.

Ezekiel Boone, author of the excellent "Hatching" series, has written a new scary tale that will surely entertain readers.

Billy Stafford and Shawn Eagle have spent years cooped up in an old cabin on Shawn's family's estate. Their goal was to produce a product similar to Siri; a personal assistant that can learn and adapt to it's user's needs.

Fast-forward several years Shawn is a multi-billionaire and Billy has fallen on hard times. Now, Shawn has need of Billy's help. Billy was always the better programmer, and Shawn needs him to complete "Nellie", the new P.I. program that will take the market by storm. Billy and his wife, Emily (who happened to be in love with Shawn at one time) move out to Eagle Mansion so Billy can begin his work.

What transpires over the course of the work is that Billy realizes that there is much more to Nellie than he realized. For rather than just a few bugs that need to be removed, Nellie has developed a menacing personality all her own, and this "glitch" threatens anyone who enters. As the weather turns cold and desolate, Billy, Shawn, and Emily will come to realize Nellie's powers.

I've become a fan of Ezekiel Boone, and I thoroughly enjoyed each book of the "Hatching" series. "The Mansion" continues in Boone's fine fashion of developing great characters and pairing them with a scary plot. I can't wait for his next book. Highly recommended.
